ThanksDisneyGiving 2018 - Day 1

Back before I knew I would be going to Disney World for my birthday and Halloween, I'd planned a trip with my friend Rachael for Thanksgiving week. So, after I got everything packed up, I started making my way south.

For this trip, I left in the afternoon to drive down to a spot in Georgia where I'd be staying overnight. The drive was rough and I was in very slow, stop-and-go traffic from around Charlotte until I got to my hotel. The next morning though, I only had to drive a few hours to go pick up Rachael from where she'd been staying with a friend for a few days.

From her friend's house, we only had to drive around an hour to get to the Magic Kingdom which would be our first stop! We arrived right after noon and made our way to a crowded Pinocchio's Village Haus for lunch.

We made it to the parking lot!!

While on the Ferry Boat, I explained the utilidor to Rachael - she had no idea that the Magic Kingdom is the 2nd floor - there's a first floor under the Magic Kingdom where all kinds of stuff happens!

The beautiful train station!

Chip & Dale will become a central focus of this trip!

You know I always love Jiminy!

I love this picture - I'd like it more if I did a long exposure with the fountain - maybe I'll do that on my next trip!

Cinderella, I like your place.

Waiting for our food!

Snapchatting while waiting.

We used mobile ordering at Pinocchio's Village Haus but still had a little bit of a wait. We knew that visiting during a major holiday would bring plenty of crowds!

After lunch we found a spot for Festival of Fantasy. Conveniently for a couple of small kids, they found a spot too - right on our feet. Even still, I got a couple of great shots - particularly a beautiful one of Minnie Mouse!

Ariel looked angelic

Pinocchio looked honest

These little characters on the float looked scared for their lives.

Jiminy! Jiminy! Over here!!

Dale was working that cape!

The Mad Hatter and Snow White (Laura, this is for you!)

Pluto!!!

Minnie Mouse!!! (not to brag, but this picture looks pretty professional)

After taking in the magic of Festival of Fantasy, we decided to head over to Storybook Circus to see Minnie and Daisy in person again. The line was fairly long but there was a large group in front of us (when I say large I mean 25+ girls who appeared to be part of some pageant group - they were wearing tiaras) and I think they were waiting for people - so they let us go ahead of them which saved us a bunch of time!

Daisy... do you see fun in our future?

She's all-seeing and all-knowing!

Minnie and her fabulous poodles!

We've got our posing down!

We had this small Mickey with us - he really wanted to take some photos too so you'll see him more times throughout this trip!

After seeing Minnie and Daisy, we took a little rest. I was dealing with some changes to my medications which left me with a low-level of potassium which was resulting in fatigue and some tingling in my arms and legs. So I was on the phone with the doctor and getting some potassium ordered at a pharmacy near our hotel. I still needed a little bit of potassium before we could get to the pharmacy so we went on a hunt for bananas. I found some at the Starbucks on Main Street. Then we went over to ride Splash Mountain and got our Dole Whips!

Rachael wore a poncho. I kept trying to show off my nails in all the pictures.

I used to always get the float - now I tend to just get the soft serve.

Get. In. My. Belly.

Mickey was overwhelmed by the pineapple deliciousness.

After getting our Dole Whips, we ended up over in Tomorrowland where we rode the Carousel of Progress and the People Mover. At some point we ended up taking some pictures and getting Mickey Ice Cream bars (because who needs actual food for dinner?).

Mickey found the him-shaped food to be slightly off-putting.

Those ears fit!

Challenge accepted.

The wall in front of the Carousel of Progress is a fun background - probably better lighting in the daytime!

Call me boring - I love this.

And call me boring again - I love the People Mover, especially at night, and the gorgeous views you get from the track!

After these rides, we had some time to kill before our fast passes for Space Mountain. We went into Star Traders to look around. A few minutes in, I smelled an odor that forced me outside where I gagged and had to stop myself from vomiting for about 5 minutes. I would guess that someone passed gas but I wouldn't be surprised if there were feces in someone's pants. The odor was pungent. And I hope that person is medically okay.

We kept using our time by walking through the Emporium and going to the Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor before hitting up Space Mountain.

I've done the Laugh Floor several times but this was the first time I noticed this funny detail!

Mike Wasowski!!!

I didn't get the pose memo on this one!

BEAUTIFUL!

Cinderella Castle, you look good, girl!

I was surprised this picture turned out so well!

One of my favorite shots from this trip!

We departed the Magic Kingdom and made our way to the hotel. Normally, this would be the end of the blog, but oh no, there are a few more stories. Since we'd never really eaten dinner, we decided to stop at the Taco Bell across the street from our hotel. While exiting the Taco Bell, I noticed another pungent odor infiltrating the car.
Me: Ew do you smell that?
Rachael: Is that coming from your body?
Me: Um... no, it smells industrial.
You probably had to be there but hilarity ensued.

We get to our hotel, which Rachael was excited about because of the free hot breakfast, and head to our room. When we arrive, we see some toxic masculinity underway on the sidewalk next door. There are about 4 men who are definitely intoxicated (it was a Tuesday night by the way) and clearly two of them are holding two of them back from fighting each other. As we are unloading into our room (right next door) we see a hotel employee walk by with a radio talking about police.

We go inside and eat our Taco Bell and get ready for bed while hearing the guy next door talking loudly about the guy who was trying to fight him and eventually the sheriff's office showed up and banged on his door. After that, we had the joy of hearing him talking about how the cops got his "nekkid ass up out the shower." Needless to say, not a restful night.

But we did laugh a lot... because I heard a gurgling noise in the room (clearly coming from the bathroom upstairs) and I decided to have some fun with it.
Me: Is that noise coming from your body?
Rachael: No! It's the toilet upstairs.
Me (in a satisfied tone): Now you know how it feels.
Rachael: What if I had said yes?

We laughed. And we checked the next morning to see if we could change our room. The hotel staff apologized and said that the guy next door was gone.

Stay Tuned! Up next is all about our Thanksgiving Meal (the day before Thanksgiving) at Garden Grill and all of our adventures to see decorations at the resorts!
