As I entered the park, I ignored the crowds rushing toward Pandora and waited by Africa to head back to the safari. While I love Flight of Passage, I was trying to pace myself for the essentials at AK.
Welcome to Animal Kingdom!
I have learned to appreciate the small details. How have I never noticed these monkeys outside the bathroom near Pizzafari?
Definitely a hidden Mickey!
I love this picture. The doors heading into Africa are so beautiful.
I was definitely on one of the first jeeps of the day! While this certainly isn't the thrill ride of the park, it's different every single time and I love seeing these magnificent animals.
Rhinoceros
Hippopotamus
Watusi cattle
Giraffe friend
Sort of obsessed with this shot
The giraffe on the left here was "necking" the one on the right - meaning thrashing it's neck around to hit the one on the right.
An elephant!
More rhinos of a different species - I think these are the white rhinos
I love when the lions are sitting out on this rock
Soft kitty, warm kitty... little ball of fur
Awkward - caught him at bath time
Love this one
It was quite a foggy morning
After the safari I heard some music and listened to this performer for a few minutes.
Welcome to Harambe!
I had to grab these pins I'd been eyeing for a while. I didn't have this Jiminy and I really loved the Simba Disney Conservation Fund pin!
For a while I'd been wanting to explore some of the Discovery Island trails which wind around the Tree of Life. Basically I walked around from one side to the other (where a Bug's Life exits). There are many carvings on the Tree of Life that aren't visible from anywhere else!
I found a bird friend.
And a porcupine friend!
Fun to see a dinosaur on the tree.
Big snake.
Tina from Bob's Burgers would love this impression of Jericho, her imaginary horse.
Found a tortoise friend
Butterfly
I definitely see a froggy - is that maybe a hammerhead shark to the right?
All I hear is the music from Jaws.
An elephant!
Big fish - looks like a bass. Maybe a whale over to the left.
Wolf
Groundhog - maybe?
Whale referenced before
Thinking this is an iguana or komodo dragon
This bunny is creepy - a little bit too Wicker Man for my tastes...
Vulture
Foxy
Who can we find here? A scorpion, monkey, and a really hard to see ram over on the right.
Hedgehog
Part of a dragon (this carving is pretty intense if I recall - there's more to the body than what you see here!)
Here is a bear, rooster, octopus, and a lizard
Monkey and a bit of a crab up to the left
Lion, a camel to the left, fish, birds
A bat looking ready to pounce on your face - beaver to the left
Giraffe!
A happy adventurer
Truly, take the time if you can to walk around down here. There are so many animals it's almost impossible to see them all. You'll be staring at one and suddenly see other eyes looking back. No lines. Not crowded. I was back here by myself most of the time!
Before I moved on to DHS, I had to see the big cheese!
Pascal from Tangled tried to hitch a ride on my head!
Made sure to stop and get a photo with the guys from one of my favorite Disney cartoons!
Stay tuned for part two where I go to Hollywood Studios!
